Referees

Referees Needed

Have you ever watched a soccer referee and thought...
BECOMING A REFEREE IS EASY
Here is your chance.

There are many benefits to being an AYSO referee:
  • Referee as few or as many games as you want. You choose your own schedule.
  • Free training. AYSO will teach you everything you need to know.
  • Get free uniforms and supplies. AYSO provides you with everything you need.
  • Mentoring available. AYSO has a mentoring program to help you, if needed.
  • High School students can use the time as community service.
  • On top of these benefits, being an AYSO referee is FUN!

AYSO is an all-volunteer run organization dedicated to youth development. Referees play a vital role in keeping matches safe, fair and fun. We are looking for volunteers to join our program. You don’t need to be a soccer expert—just willing to learn.

If you are interested in becoming a referee or would like more information, please contact:
Jennifer Tomasulo – REGIONAL REFEREE ADMINISTRATOR

Next class will be Sunday September 22nd, from 10am-2pm, lunch included.  You'll first take the super easy online course, and then come to our 4-hour class.  Instructions on how to register for the online course and the in-person part of the class is below.

Here’s how to join.

1st:   REGISTER AS A VOLUNTEER

To become an AYSO referee, you must be a current AYSO volunteer.  For help on signing up to be a volunteer, scroll to the bottom of this page for instructions. You must first have a Blue Sombrero account, then sign up as a volunteer, then you can login to AYSOu for training.

2nd:  GET REFEREE TRAINING

There are a lot of opportunities for online or in-person training. You enroll in these courses in AYSO University. Your login credentials are the ones you set up when you registered as a volunteer (in step 1). To see a list of local training opportunities click here.

To sign up for classes in AYSO University, it may help to follow their tutorial.  Once logged in, click the My Courses tab.  Then click the Open button next to How-Tos For Volunteers, then click Launch and read through the tutorial.

On-Line Companion Classes –  At this time, a Regional On-Line Class is offered through AYSOU.  Use the on-line course to learn the material and then use the classroom session for review and clarification.  You MUST take the online course before coming to the Companion in-person course if you want to be an official referee.  The in-person course is only 4 hours now!

How do I access On-line referee training courses?

  •          Go to www.AYSOU.org and login using your Blue Sombrero credentials. •         Click on Online Courses on the red bar.
  •         Scroll down to “Regional Referee Training” and click OPEN on right side.
  •         Study the nine chapters, then take and pass the final exam. Print the certificate of completion and bring it to the in-person course.
